WhatsApp Business API Pricing, Simplified

Two costs, no surprises. You pay App-ening for the platform and Meta for WhatsApp messages. We never mark up your message costs. Rates updated for Meta's April 2025 pricing changes.

How WhatsApp API Pricing Works

Your total cost has two clear, separate parts. No hidden fees, no per-message markup from App-ening.

Part 1

Platform Fee (paid to App-ening)

A fixed monthly subscription for the tools your team needs to run WhatsApp at scale.

  • Team Inbox for multi-agent support
  • Broadcast campaigns and scheduling
  • Automation journeys and workflows
  • CRM pipeline and contact management
  • Analytics and reporting
  • Integrations (Google Sheets, Shopify, Zapier, and more)

Plans range from Free to Custom, based on contacts and features.

Part 2

WhatsApp Message Costs

Per-message costs are deducted from your prepaid wallet at all-inclusive rates.

  • All-inclusive rates — one price covers Meta and platform costs
  • Deducted automatically from your prepaid wallet
  • No separate Meta bills to manage
  • Service conversations (customer-initiated) are FREE
  • Marketing: charged per 24-hour conversation window
  • Utility & Authentication: charged per message (since April 2025)

We have zero involvement in your Meta billing. Your WhatsApp costs are between you and Meta.

Meta Conversation Pricing by Category

These are Meta's rates, not App-ening's. WhatsApp charges differ based on conversation category and the recipient's country.

Conversation Categories Explained

Category What It Covers Pricing Model Who Initiates
Service Customer messages you first; you reply within 24 hours FREE (since Nov 2024) Customer-initiated
Marketing Promotions, offers, re-engagement, product announcements Per 24-hour conversation window Business-initiated
Utility Order updates, shipping notifications, appointment reminders Per message (changed April 2025) Business-initiated
Authentication OTP codes, verification, login confirmations Per message (changed April 2025) Business-initiated
Important pricing model change (April 2025): Meta transitioned utility and authentication templates from per-conversation pricing to per-message pricing. Previously, all categories used a 24-hour conversation window model. Now, marketing still uses the conversation window model, but utility and authentication are charged per individual template message sent. This can mean lower costs for businesses sending few utility messages per conversation, but different cost calculations for high-volume senders.

Approximate Rates by Country

Service conversations are completely FREE since November 2024. When customers message you first, you get a free 24-hour window to reply unlimited times. There is no monthly cap on free service conversations. If your business primarily receives inbound messages, your WhatsApp conversation costs could be near zero.

How App-ening is Different

Predictable costs. No hidden fees. All-inclusive per-message rates.

Some Providers App-ening
Message billing Separate Meta bills + platform fees All-inclusive rate from your wallet
Pricing model Complex multi-vendor billing Subscription + prepaid wallet
Hidden fees Setup fees, support fees, API fees No hidden fees
Appointment booking Extra cost or not available Included in all paid plans

With App-ening, your WhatsApp costs are predictable. Platform subscription + all-inclusive per-message wallet rates = no surprises.

Service Conversations Are Free -- No Monthly Cap

Since November 2024, Meta made all service conversations on WhatsApp completely free. When a customer messages you first, you get a free 24-hour window to reply unlimited times -- no charge from Meta, no charge from App-ening.

For service businesses that primarily receive inbound enquiries -- salons, clinics, restaurants, repair shops -- this means your WhatsApp conversation costs could be near zero. You only pay when you initiate a conversation with a template message (marketing, utility, or authentication).

There is no monthly cap on free service conversations. Every inbound message opens a free 24-hour reply window. This replaced the previous model where businesses received 1,000 free service conversations per month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about WhatsApp Business API pricing.

How does App-ening's message pricing work?

App-ening charges a monthly platform subscription plus per-message costs deducted from your prepaid wallet. Each message has a single all-inclusive rate that covers everything. Service conversations (customer-initiated) are always free.

What are service conversations and why are they free?

Service conversations happen when a customer messages you first. Meta made these completely free in November 2024 -- replacing the previous model of 1,000 free service conversations per month. You can reply unlimited times within the 24-hour window at no charge. There is no monthly cap.

What changed about utility and authentication pricing in April 2025?

Starting April 1, 2025, Meta changed utility and authentication templates from per-conversation pricing to per-message pricing. Previously, you paid once for a 24-hour conversation window. Now you pay per individual template message sent. Marketing conversations still use the 24-hour window model. This means if you send one reminder per customer, costs may be similar or lower; if you send multiple utility messages to the same customer in a day, it could cost more than the old model.

How do I pay for WhatsApp conversations?

Message costs are deducted from your prepaid wallet inside App-ening. Each message has a single all-inclusive rate that covers everything. Just load your wallet and send — no separate bills to manage.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. App-ening's Free plan includes 100 contacts, shared inbox, and 1 campaign per month at no platform cost. WhatsApp service conversations (customer-initiated) are also free from Meta. No credit card required to sign up.

Can I control my WhatsApp spending?

Yes. You control which conversations to initiate and how many campaigns to send. Service conversations (inbound) are always free. You can also set a spending limit in your Meta Business Manager to cap your monthly WhatsApp charges.

Why do rates vary by country?

Meta sets different rates based on the recipient's country (not the sender's). This is because WhatsApp usage patterns and market conditions vary globally. India typically has the lowest rates, while Western European and North American markets have higher rates. The full rate card is published on Meta's pricing page.
